Special Event: Ofrenda for Monica Maduro, Created by Amalia Mesa-Bains Wilsey Court 6:00 pm
The ofrenda (offering) for Monica Maduro, a Fine Arts Museums trustee and arts advocate who passed away in 2013, borrows from the Day of the Dead tradition and follows the theme of the ship La Contessa, a major Burning Man project for which Maduro served as a collaborator. In the ofrenda created by Amalia Mesa-Bains, the ship carries Maduro to the afterlife and embodies her glamour, artistry, and deep commitment to the community. It will be a collaborative offering open to friends and family as they celebrate the life of this remarkable woman.
